I Forked Jack Dorsey's Buzz: I Spend MORE TIME In Buzz Now

We graded the Buzz Bench tape. The fork is real. The download is not. Receipts inside.

ClearmudWatch on YouTube

TLDR. Watch it. He forked Buzz so a local path opens in the pane and he can stay in the thread. 381 replies. Activity on the right. An embedded browser. He will not release it. That is a shop diary, not a product.

Worth Your Time

What's actually being done

Look, the pain is small and true. A markdown link that will not click. A stack of ten threads and no highlight. Activity that kicks you out of the chat. He started the fork on a livestream and kept the whole thing in one thread to count the back-and-forth. 381 replies. The bench now opens PNG, markdown, HTML, PDF in a side pane with tabs. Localhost gets an embedded browser. A terminal he barely uses because Jack and Fizz built it from a vibe prompt.

He says this is a private fork. He thinks Block will absorb the ideas. He is in Buzz four to six hours a day. Dexter does LinkedIn. Xavier does X. Thank you, Jack. Clap. Then he sits down.

The Good

Here's the thing. I wanted a launch. What I got was a man fixing his own chair:

  • Stay in the thread. Ninety minutes without opening Obsidian. That is the product even if he never ships it.
  • Click the local path. If the agent wrote a file, the file should open. Walton walked his own stores. He did not walk next door to read the receipt.
  • Activity beside the chat, not on top of it. The default app replaces the thread. His fork keeps the work in view. That is a real complaint.
  • Leave the bugs in. Magnification is off. The cursor is wrong. He says so.
  • Say you will not ship it. A diary that admits it is a diary. Rarer than another open-source drop.

The Bullshit

Four to six hours a day. A feeling about a fork. Fine. Not a timesheet.

I don't plan on releasing this. Then the title is a how-to for a tool you cannot install. Watch it as a letter to Jack.

Jack and team will add this. A hope. Not a commit.

The Contradictions

  • Title says how he spends more time in Buzz. Body says you cannot have the build.
  • Vibe-coded a terminal he does not use. The useful work is the pane he reaches for.
  • Thanks the public release. Keeps the useful fork private.

The Grades

Marcelo, host: 7.4. Marcelo showed a chair he built for himself and said he would not sell it. That is why this is a watch. The miss is usefulness for anyone who is not him. Steal the pain list. Do not wait for a download. There is not one.

Kill shotHe built the desk he wanted. Then he said he will not release it.
